Master of Biotechnology in the UK: Entry Requirements

Imperial College London

  • For Nepalese applicants, a bachelor's degree and master's degree with a score of 80% is required. For Indian applicants, a bachelor's degree from a mainstream university is required. A score of at least 60% is required for students from elite universities, and a score of at least 65 % is required for applicants from other universities in India.
  • For English language requirement: IELTS score of 6.5 with no band below 6.0 or TOEFL score of 92 overall with at least 20 in all sections or PTE score of 62 overall with at least 56 in all sections

The University of Edinburgh

  • A 4-year undergraduate degree from a recognized institution. The minimum grade for entry is country-specific.
  • For English language proficiency: IELTS score of 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in each band or TOEFL score of 92 overall with at least 20 in each section.

The University of Manchester

  • A bachelor's degree in biological science equivalent to upper second class is required.
  • For proof of English language proficiency: IELTS score of 6.5 overall and in each component or TOEFL score of 90 overall with no component less than 22.

The University of Warwick

  • For applicants from Nepal, a master's degree with an overall score of 80 % is required and for applicants from India, an undergraduate degree with a minimum score of 58%.
  • For proof of English language proficiency, an IELTS score of 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in each component or PTE score of 62 overall with at least 59 in each component or TOEFL score of 92 overall with at least 22 in reading, 21 in listening, 23 in speaking and 21 in writing.

University of Bristol

  • For applicants from Nepal, a bachelor's degree with 65 % from Kathmandu, Tribhuvan, and Pokhara University and other recognized universities, a master's degree with 80%. For applicants from India, a bachelor's degree with 60% or equivalent.
  • For proof of English language proficiency, an IELTS score of 6.5 overall with no band less than 6.0 or a TOEFL score of 85 overall with at least 20 in reading, listening, and writing and 21 in speaking or PTE score of 67 with at least 60 in all sections.

University of Glasgow

  • Applicants from India and Nepal require a bachelor's degree with first division or better in each year of study. Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • IELTS score of 6.5 overall with no band less than 6.0 or TOEFL score of 90 with a minimum score of 20 in reading, 19 in listening and speaking, and 23 in writing or PTE score of 60 with at least 59 in each section.

Durham University

  • Academic qualification is equivalent to a UK honours degree to at least 2:1 related to biosciences.
  • For proof of English language proficiency: IELTS score of a minimum of 6.5 overall or TOEFL score of a minimum of 92 overall.

University of Birmingham

  • Nepalese applicants require a bachelor's degree related to life science background with a score of 60-65%. For Indian applicants, a similar bachelor's degree with a first-class or a perfect upper second-class score.
  • For English language requirements: IELTS score of 6.5 overall with no band less than 5.5 or TOEFL score of 80 overall with at least 21 in speaking and 19 in all other sections or PTE score of 64 with no less than 59 in each section.

University of Leeds

  • A bachelor's degree is equivalent to upper second class, and the program must have covered courses on life's cellular and molecular basis.
  • For the English language requirement, an IELTS score of a minimum of 6.5 overall, with at least 6.0 in each section.

The University of Sheffield

  • A bachelor's degree with an upper second-class score (60-70%) or equivalent related to molecular biotechnology.
