(i) Educational Governance and Leadership
Specialization in Education Governance and Leadership under the MES program aims to produce competent human resources in education who can lead, manage and administer educational institutions to ensure improved education outcomes.
This course is ideal for education leaders, managers, administrators, government employees in the education sector, and those working in the INGO/NGO sector.
(ii) Instructional Design and Technology.
Specialization in Instructional Design and Technology focuses on producing specialists in instructional design and technology.
This course is ideal for teachers, educators, curriculum developers, instructional designers, and textbook writers. It concentrates on providing learners with various theories, contents, models and technologies useful in instructional designs and technologies.
Master of Educational Sciences Curriculum
MES Curriculum consists of two courses – Core Courses, the fundamental courses of education and Specialization Course, which includes academic and professional courses.
The entire program amounts to 60 credits. The credit count, in terms of credit hours, is similar to other programs, i.e. 1 credit = 16 hours.
Of 60 credits, 24 (40% of total credits) consist of Core Courses, including Thesis. The Core Courses are entirely theoretical except for the thesis, which is a research-based practical course.
The remaining 36 credits (60% of total credits) out of 60 credits are allocated in the specialization area, which includes elective courses equal to 3 credits.
The 36 credits specialization course is a mix of both academic and practical curricula.

Mode of Delivery
The MES course is delivered in two mediums — Open and distance (Online/Offline) and face-to-face.
As per NOU Curriculum Framework and Implementation Guidelines 2018, 25% of the course will be delivered online, 60% offline, and the remaining 15% face-to-face.
Evaluation Criteria
Students are evaluated based on External assessment /written examinations and internal reviews.
The external assessment includes final examination in different forms such as written, practical face-to-face and distance mode. This assessment covers 60% of the total weightage.
The Internal Assessment covers 40% of the total weightage. It is evaluated based on the following factors:
- E-portfolio (Quiz, Lessons, Individual Assignments, Collaborative Assignments)
- Project-based Paper and Presentation:
After the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, another mode of assessment named alternative authentic assessment has also been introduced for semester-end examination.
In the Alternative Authentic Assessment Framework 2020 of Nepal Open University, for assessing learning achievement, different tools and techniques such as Writing Papers, Takeaway exams, presentations and viva-voce process evaluation through e-portfolio will be used according to the nature of the course.
