Master of Business Studies in Nepal is a 2-year master program that is offered by more than 20 private and government institutions in Nepal accumulatively. 

As a curriculum of MBS, students learn about important management and business subject matters such as marketing practices, strategies and implementations, managerial economics, cost and risk analysis, organizational behaviour, effective communication, account and finances, human resource management and so on. 

MBS is a popular management and business course which can be pursued after completing a bachelor degree in any stream. It is offered by more than 40 institutions/ private and public institutions of TU. MBS is popular in Nepal because of  reasons like: 

  • It is more affordable than the other management courses such as Master of Business Administration (MBA). 

  • The entry requirements are less taxing since MBS doesn’t ask for tough entrance tests like SOMAT.

Admission Requirements for Master of Business Studies in Nepal

Students looking forward to joining MBS in Nepal first need to fulfil the following admission criteria: 

  1. Applicants need to pass BBS, BBA, or bachelor degree in any other stream with at least 45%. 

  2. Students need to appear on the CMAT entrance examination conducted by Tribhuvan University Faculty of Management (FOM) and pass the entrance exam. 

Entrance Examination

The entrance test that is used to select eligible students for Master of Business Studies is CMAT. Also called as Central Management Admission Test, CMAT is an aptitude test that comprises 4 sections: 

  • Verbal Section: Vocabulary (Synonyms and Antonyms), passage, Prepositions, Idioms and Phrases.

  • Quantitative Section: Remainder, Average, Ratio & Proportions, Percentage, Substitution, Defined Functions, Set Theory, Fraction and Decimal, Matrix and Determinants, Sequence, Series, Unitary Method, Indices ( Law of Indices), Digits & Age, Permutation and, Combinations, Simple and Compound interests, Profit and Loss, Commission, Taxation, and VAT, Probability (Principle of counting), Quadratic Equation, Statistics, Log & Exponent, HCF & LCM

  • Logical Reasoning: Type of relations, Odd one out, Figures & Relations, Arguments & FlowChart – Pure logic, Common sense logic & Guest logic

  • General Awareness: Currency Affairs- Business and Economy, Sports, Politics, Management Theories, Science and Literature, Interesting Facts/ Current Facts. 

Generally speaking, the CMAT Test is 1.5 hours long and has 100 questions, each of which is worth 1 mark. To, pass students need to score a minimum of 40 in CMAT.
