Master of Architecture in Canada: Admission Requirement

University of Toronto

  • An undergraduate degree with a GPA equivalent to mid-B with physics, calculus, and university-level architecture history courses.
  • It is recommended to have some form of experience in designing, sculpting, digital drawing, etc. but not mandatory.
  • The English language requirement requires an overall TOEFL score of 93 with no section below 20 or an IELTS score of 7.0 with at least 6.5 in each band.

McGill University

  • A bachelor's degree equivalent to a BSc in Architecture with a 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA.
  • TOEFL score of 86 with no sub-score less than 20 or IELTS score of 6.5 overall.
  • An electronic portfolio that includes selected work from previous academic work (50%), group or individual projects (25%), and professional work (25%).

University of British Columbia

  • A bachelor's degree of four years with at least first division.
  • TOEFL score of 100 overall with at least 21 in writing and speaking and 22 in reading and listening or IELTS score of 7.0 overall with at least 6.5 in each band.

University of Waterloo

  • A bachelor of architecture degree (pre-professional or professional) with at least 75%.
  • A portfolio containing design works.
  • A minimum TOEFL score of 90 overall with at least 25 in writing and speaking or IELTS score of 6.5 overall with at least 6.5 in writing and speaking and 6.0 in listening and reading or PTE score of 63 overall with at least 65 in writing and speaking.

University of Calgary

  • A bachelor's degree in architecture accredited by the CACB or NAAB must enter a two-year program. The three-year program is open to applicants from any background with a 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA.
  • TOEFL score of 105, IELTS score of 7.5 overall or PTE score of 59 or more.

University of Guelph

  • A four-year bachelor's degree in any field with at least 70% in the last two years of the study.
  • An IELTS score of 6.5 or a TOEFL score of 89 overall with at least 21 in each section or a PTE score of 61 overall is required to prove English language proficiency.
  • An electronic portfolio demonstrating the creative ability of the applicants.

University of Manitoba

  • A bachelor's degree of 4 or 5 years in architecture or similar study with at least 3.0 out of 4.0 in the final two years.
  • A portfolio demonstrating the creative ability of the applicants. The portfolio must contain design works demonstrating technical abilities, creative thinking, conceptual development, and design experimentation.
  • A minimum TOEFL score of 86 overall with at least 20 in each section or an IELTS score of 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in each band.

Carleton University

  • A four-year bachelor's degree in architecture or similar, with extensive studio experience in architectural design and a minimum overall grade point average of B-.
  • A minimum TOEFL score of 88 with at least 22 in each section, an IELTS score of 6.5 with at least 7.0 in each band, or a PTE score of more than 60.

Ryerson University

  • A bachelor's degree in architecture with at least 3.0 out of 4.33 in the final two years of undergraduate study.
  • TOEFL score of 93 overall, IELTS score of 7.0 overall, or PTE score of 63 overall.
  • A portfolio of creative works that are well labelled and can be in any media.

Laurentian University

  • An undergraduate degree in architecture with a minimum score of 70%.
  • A portfolio demonstrating the applicant's technical, creative, and design skills.
  • A minimum TOEFL score of 88 overall or IELTS score of 6.5 overall with no band score below 6.0 or PTE score of 60 overall.
